Welcome to the St. Joseph’s Wayne Hospital Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory

Heart disease is the leading cause of death in our community and every year, more than 4,000 men and women with heart disease are treated at St. Joseph’s Wayne Hospital.  To expand the range of clinical services available at our hospital to effectively diagnose and treat heart disease, we are pleased to offer a state-of-the-art Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory.

Cardiac catheterization is the recommended diagnostic modality that provides the most accurate and detailed information about the heart’s function. It allows physicians to assess the pumping function of the heart muscle, and to examine the coronary arteries and heart valves. With the information provided by this procedure, physicians can accurately diagnose the extent of disease and begin treatment before irreversible damage to the heart occurs.

The St. Joseph’s Wayne Hospital Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory features advanced technology including computer enhanced angiographic X-Ray equipment, a cardiac catheterization system which provides information about all aspects of the functioning of the heart and a comprehensive information system that compiles all data and images of the heart.  This data can be transferred immediately to physicians’ offices for immediate interpretation. If patients require surgery or other advanced procedures, this information can be immediately transferred to tertiary care facilities. The procedure is provided in a comfortable and relaxing environment that includes special lighting for visual therapy accompanied by soothing classical music.
