SJW Offers "Vial of Life" for Older Adults
St. Joseph’s Wayne Hospital welcomes adults age 60 and older to receive the Vial of Life. Offered in partnership with the Passaic County Division of Senior Services, the Vial of Life contains a medical information form that includes an individual’s critical medical and prescription information. The completed form is enclosed in a plastic container that is placed inside the refrigerator door. A magnetic label, located on the refrigerator door, indicates that the plastic container (“Vial of Life”) is inside. In the event of an emergency, where an individual is unconscious or unable to speak, emergency personnel can retrieve the container and provide the critical medical information form to staff in the emergency department at the hospital. All emergency personnel have been alerted to look for the Vial of Life when they are called to the home of an older adult.
Any senior interested in receiving the Vial of Life, which includes the plastic container, medical information form and refrigerator magnet, should call St. Joseph’s Wayne Hospital at 973-956-3753 or email Rosie Johnson.
